Iran – three modifications of the Shahed-136 UAVs

In a report dated 5 December 2023, three modifications of the Iranian Shahed-136 UAV have been listed: the Geran-M, Geran-I and Geran-K.

The latest known modification, the ‘Geran-K’ is equipped with a gel battery and a warhead, weighing 40kg and 35 cm in diameter. There is speculation amongst sources surrounding the installation of thermobaric warheads on the Shahed-136. Defence and aviation experts have noted that the colour of the outer part of the UAVs has been altered, possibly to make it difficult to visually detect the UAV at night.

The OSTD has previously recorded the use of power banks and modems with SIM cards on the Shahed-136.
