Yemen – Houthi USV sinks Liberian-flagged bulk carrier

On 12 June 2024, the Houthis struck the ‘TUTOR’ bulk carrier off the coast of Al Hudaydah with a USV, leading to the death of one of the ship’s Filipino crew. Media posted to various social media channels showed the moment the ship was struck, as well as the situation inside the ship. The ship would ultimately sink on 20 June 2024.

The ‘TUTOR’ is the second ship to be sunk by the Houthis (but the first to be sunk by a USV), since the group began targeting ships with alleged links to Israel in response to the conflict in Gaza. In the 9 months since October 7, OverSite has recorded over 140 UxV events attributed to the Houthis.
