SVBIED targeting a restaurant in central Mogadishu, Somalia

On 14 July 2024, Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for a suicide vehicle borne IED (SVBIED) attack targeting spectators of the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship final. The blast targeted the ‘Top Coffee’ café in Bondhere District, Mogadishu. A number of vehicles and buildings near Villa Somalia, the official presidential residence were damaged in the incident. The Somali Police Force reported that at least ten people were killed and many more were injured.
