Romania – Russian OWA UAV fragments found in Romania
In a statement published on 25 July 2024, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that 3 Russian UAVs had crossed the Romanian-Ukrainian border. The Romanian Defence Ministry later confirmed that fragment of a Russian Shahed OWA UAV had been discovered near the village of Plauru, Romania.
Two F-14 fighter jets, in the region as part of a NATO mission, were dispatched to survey the area. A NATO spokesperson stated that "While NATO has no information indicating any intentional attack by Russia against Allied territory, these acts are irresponsible and potentially dangerous", a spokesperson said in a statement.
Furthermore, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, summoned the Russian charge d’affaires to Bucharest, citing the strikes near Romania’s border as a threat to national security.
