Ukraine – Spate of attacks on Ukrainian police officers
Three attacks involving the instalment of security cameras have been recorded in Ukraine between the 17 November and 22 November.
On 17 November in the Pecherskyi District, Kyiv Oblast, the police received a phone call reporting a false case of domestic violence. Upon arriving at a rented apartment an IED, consisting of a modified F-1 grenade with a ‘stretcher’, functioned when the door was opened. A hidden security camera had been installed in a flowerpot to transmit real time video footage of the explosion. No casualties were reported, and the perpetrator was subsequently arrested on 25 November.
An attack on the police headquarters in Zhytomyr, Zhytomyr Oblast was also recorded on 20 November. An RCIED comprised of nails contained within a thermos was detonated remotely using a mobile phone. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) stated that one law enforcement officer was injured and investigations revealed a surveillance camera was installed nearby.
In the Dniprovskyi District, Kyiv Oblast, another attack occurred on 22 November, at 15:00. An RCIED was detonated when a military guard came into proximity to a package which had been planted next to a car. It is reported that a camera had been attached to a nearby tree for live broadcasting.
