Sudan – Rising insecurity in Khartoum

Members of the Sudanese Army have issued a warning of the threat of vehicle-borne IEDs (VBIEDs) in Khartoum. On the 12 April 2025, a VBIED was discovered in a residential area and subsequently rendered safe, mitigating the risk of casualties and material damage. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are reported to have stolen vehicles from members of the public, equipped them with explosives and attempted to detonate them across the city.
The ongoing civil war between the Sudanese Army and the RSF has undermined security in Sudan, with neighbourhoods in Khartoum becoming hotspots for illicit and violent activities. Amid rising concerns, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant.
