Pakistan – IED-laden UAV targets the Takhtikhel Post

Nine personnel from the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps were injured on 22 July 2025 following an attack by an IED-laden UAV. At 07:30, a quadcopter remotely delivered an IED targeting the ISD Takhtikhel Post located between Bannu and Lakki Marwat Districts. Official sources state that the incident resulted in injury to three personnel from FC Bannu and six members of the Frontier Corps. Investigations are ongoing to determine the location from where the UAV was launched and to identify the perpetrators involved in the attack.
Recently, the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has reportedly carried out multiple attacks using drones, targeting the Pakistani military and police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. Reports indicate that COTS quadcopters are the new preferred method for attack by the TTP, sourced mainly from China and reportedly smuggled via Afghanistan. Bannu’s Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan stated that ‘militants have acquired these modern tools, but they are in the process of experimentation and that’s why they can’t hit their targets accurately’. OverSite has recently recorded several events involving the use of UAVs to remotely deliver explosive devices in Pakistan.
