United States – Christmas feast recovered at Lee Correctional Facility

On 7 December 2025, the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) announced that prison officers at Lee Correctional Institution had recovered Christmas-themed contraband. The package was remotely delivered by UAV and contained cigarettes, marijuana, raw steak, crab legs, and a tin of Old Bay seasoning. Following the seizure, prison spokeswoman Chrysti Shain remarked “I’m guessing the inmates who were expecting the package are crabby”.

The smuggling attempt is one of many events recorded on OverSite involving contraband being delivered into prisons. Shain acknowledged that UAVs remain a constant threat to prisons, highlighting that the corrections department spends millions of dollars each year to counter deliveries of contraband, ranging from mobile phones to methamphetamine and fentanyl.
