Afghanistan – ISKP claim SPBIED attack in Kabul

Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) have claimed responsibility for an SPBIED attack which killed the Taliban Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, Khalil Haqqani. The attack took place on 11 December 2024 as Haqqani was leaving the Ministry of Refugees in Kabul.

CCTV footage posted by the Taliban, shows the perpetrator passing through a security checkpoint with his right arm in a cast. Reports allege this was done to give the perpetrator a reason for setting off metal detectors and pass through the checkpoints with the device.

A report published in the Washington Post states that the killing of Haqqani marks the highest profile government target in the three years since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan.
