Athens – RCIED functioned in Athens

On the 13 July 2023, an IED exploded outside the Athens Masonic Lodge. The explosion resulted in structural damage and no casualties were reported. At 06:30 a threatening phone call was made to 112 and warned of an RCIED planted at the Masonic Hall. The device was concealed within a cardboard box and comprised of a propane gas cylinder, a mobile phone, battery, and a fuse. As the Athens Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department arrived at the scene, the RCIED was detonated. An additional IED was located, consisting of a 5-litre gas cylinder containing possible gunpowder, the device was rendered safe in a controlled detonation.
