Australia – IEDs and a UAV recovered following counter-terrorism raids across Queensland State

Reports dated from 5 November 2025 state that between January and August 2025, officers from the Counter-Terrorism Investigation Group carried out a series of coordinated raids across Queensland State under Operation Whiskey Blackheart. Investigations led to several arrests and the discovery of a cache of IEDs and 20 kg of commercial explosives, including emulsion explosives and cast boosters. Authorities also recovered a cylindrical object wrapped in black plastic and silver tape, as well as a UAV. Sources state that this appears to be the country’s first recorded instance of an operational UAV. Queensland Police Service (QPS) Assistant Commissioner Charysse Pond stated that an extensive investigation into the trafficking of illegal firearms and explosives had been conducted.
