Azerbaijan – Recovery of narcotics remotely delivered by UAV

On 8 April 2025, the State Border Service (SBS) observed the movement of a UAV crossing the border between Iran and Azerbaijan. A small package was dropped, and the UAV subsequently returned towards the Ardabil Province in Iran. The package, which contained over 4 kg of marijuana, consisted of a black plastic bag wrapped in a clear plastic material with a length of metal wire attached, to allow package to be released by the UAV. Two individuals who arrived to collect the package were detained.
