Black Sea – Ukrainian USVs sink Russian Ropucha-I landing ship
The Ukrainian Directorate of Intelligence announced that, on 14 February 2024, Group 13 of the GUR of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine were able to successfully sink the Caesar Kunikov, a Russian Ropucha-I class landing ship.
Footage released to Telegram shows several Magura V5 USVs piercing holes in one side of the ship, before showing the ship sinking into the Black Sea, off the coast of the Crimea Peninsula.
The Kunikov had previously seen usage in wars against Syria, Georgia and Ukraine and was ultimately sunk exactly 81 years after its namesake Tzezar Kunikov, a Russian Naval Officer, died of wounds gained during the defence of Malaya Zemlya.
