Colombia – A cache of IEDs and BME in El Plateado

On 12 October 2024, the Colombian Armed Forces uncovered a cache of IEDs and BME belonging to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia People’s Army (FARC) in the town of El Plateado, Colombia. 

Through Operation Perso, the Colombian Armed Forces aims to stabilise and protect El Plateado, in order to regain control. Consequently, a total of 261 IEDs were defused, including 170 devices intended to be remotely delivered by UAV. Additionally, an IED consisting of a blue drum, filled with explosives with chains and metallic elements for fragmentation was discovered. The cache also contained a significant amount of BME, including emulsion explosives and multiple electric detonators. The IEDs were intended to be used in a plot to target civilian and military personnel.
