Georgia – alleged Ukrainian IED attack foiled by Georgian Secret Service
In a statement released on 5 February 2024, the State Security Service of Georgia announced that they had seized 6 IEDs, that were intended to be used in attacks, on 19 January 2024.
The IEDs had a collective weight of 14 kg and were found split between the containers of two electric car batteries. The IEDs were sophisticated devices, each consisting of C4, an electric detonator, a timer, a circuit board and three batteries.
The explosives were transported through several countries in a car with Ukrainian license plates before being seized in Georgia. They were intended to be transferred into Russia, specifically to the border city of Voronezh via the Dariali border crossing. Investigations continue to establish the identities of those involved in manufacture of the explosives, as well as the exact route in which they used to smuggled them into the country.
