Haiti – UAV used by gang members to plan prison break in Port-au-Prince

A 72-hour state of emergency was called in Haiti due to civil-unrest and increasing violence from gang members.

On 2 March 2024, prisoners successfully broke free from the National Penitentiary in Port-au-Prince.

Using a drone, gang members closely monitored police activity surrounding the prison and used the footage to plan the prison break. The gang were able to track the location of the officers and time the escape of the prisoners accordingly.

It is reported that 3,700 inmates escaped during the jailbreak.
