On 29th December 2025, troops of the Joint Task Force North East (JTF NE) and Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) carried out a joint operation designed to thwart an ISWAP attack on a mosque in Banki town, situated on the Nigeria-Cameroon border. A suspected suicide bomber was intercepted at the Banki Central Mosque and was found to be in possession of BME. Troops stationed at the Nigeria-Cameroon border gate executed a related task, in which a vehicle was searched and found to be transporting a common chemical precursor for the manufacture of IEDs.
In November, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC). Additionally, Washington proceeded to launch military airstrikes against Islamic State groups in Nigeria on Christmas Day.
