Somalia – Cache of RC BME in the Lower Juba Region

On 15 February 2026, Jubaland State Intelligence and Security Agency (JISA) forces announced that they had carried out an operation against Al-Shabaab over the past four days in Hoola Wajir, Lower Juba. As a result, a cache of RC BME, including receivers and two-channel transmitters were seized. A cache of mines, mortars, weapons and ammunition, as well as batteries were also recovered.
Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islaam, President of Jubaland, commended the JISA forces for what he called a ‘severe defeat’ against Al-Shabaab. He vowed that operations would persist until the group is eliminated from the Lower Juba Region.
Efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab in Somalia have been backed by the U.S., who have conducted numerous airstrikes in coordination with the Somali government under U.S. Africa Command, or AFRICOM. Targets of the strikes have included Al-Shabaab leaders, training sites, weapon stores and IED manufacturing workshops. The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) was renewed by the UN Security Council in December for an additional year, following a UK-backed resolution that extends its authorization until 31 December 2026.
