Spain – 17 year old manufacturing IEDs and HME in Montellano

A highly radicalised 17-year-old boy was arrested on 21 January 2024 for manufacturing IEDs and homemade explosives (HME) in Montellano, Spain. Authorities conducted surveillance on the teenager throughout 2023, uncovering evidence that subsequently led to his arrest.

A ready-to-use RCIED, with a homemade detonator was found in his possession. In addition to a large quantity of chemicals used in the manufacture of explosive substances, including glycerin, nitric acid, sulphuric acid and sulphur. Plus, containers of acetone, hydrogen peroxide, gunpowder, TATP and shrapnel. Moreover, the remains of a number of IEDs fashioned from 2L plastic bottles and metal cans were recovered by the police.
