Syria – RCIED found during the arrest of a PKK member

The Syrian Interim Government military police and the Turkish intelligence agency, MIT, in a joint operation arrested Ahmed Haj Omar, a member of the PKK on 9 February 2024.

Reportedly, Omar had received specialised training in carrying out assassinations and using explosive devices, as well as being involved in the shipment of IEDs between 2022 and 2023 in Manbij City.

During the search of his residence a ready-to-use RCIED was discovered. The device consisted of a rectangular container with magnets and two RC transmitters in white project boxes with antennas. It is reported Ahmed Haj Omar was intending to carry out attacks against the Turkish Armed Forces and the Syrian National Army.
