This event is not isolated, as authorities responded to reports of numerous IEDs located at two additional PTT petrol stations in Mueang Pattani District on 3 and 4 February 2026. Previously, on 11 January 2026, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat Provinces were subject to as many as 11 simultaneous attacks involving IEDs at petrol stations. At that time, Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul claimed that the attacks were not aimed at insurgency while Army Commander Major-General Narathip Phoynok intensified security to the maximum level across the affected districts.
