Uganda – SPBIED attack intercepted in Munonyo, Kampala

A female suicide bomber wearing a suicide vest has been killed near the Munyonyo Martyrs’ shrine in Kampala, following a successful intervention by Ugandan Security Forces. Footage circulating on social media shows the device detonating as two individuals riding a motorcycle approach the shrine. The attempted attack, which took place on 3 June 2025, intended to target pilgrims gathering to celebrate Martyrs’ Day – a commemoration of Christians killed in the late 19th century.
One of the perpetrators has been identified as Aisha Katushabe, the daughter of a previous suicide bomber who targeted a police station in Kampala during a spate of attacks in November 2021. Those attacks were claimed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militant group with links to IS-CAP.
