Ukraine – explosive-laden UAVs rendered safe in Nikopol Raion
Two FPV UAVs carrying explosives were discovered and rendered safe by authorities on 17 January 2024 in Nikopol Raion, Ukraine.
One consisted of a UAV remotely dropping an improvised munition in the town of Marhanets, targeting police officials who were looking into an earlier attack. The munition failed to function and was rendered safe.
The second, was an IED-laden one-way attack UAV in the city of Nikopol. The IED that was attached comprised of a plastic tube containing 'plastid' explosives with a 9-volt battery and fragmentation nails that were taped to the side. The device has a safety mechanism in the form of a clothes peg, with brown and blue wires attached with foil at one end and a contact sensor in the form of two wires.
