Ukraine – intoxicated civilian intercepts a RuAF fibre optic FPV UAV

Verkkouutiset
On the 24 August, two videos circulated online showing a Russian Armed Forces (RuAF) OWA FPV quadcopter UAV, equipped with fibre optic, attempting to target a civilian on a highway near Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast. However, after the UAV descended, an intoxicated resident can be seen with the drone in his bare hands before throwing it to the ground and dismantling the explosive device attached.
Pokrovsk has become a hotbed for drone warfare due to it being a crucial transport hub for Donetsk Oblast with strategic highways and a regionally significant railway station. In areas such as Pokrovsk, the most prevalent type of UAV used is the FPV UAV. This is due to its low cost, navigational capabilities and effective targeted strikes. Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service (SZRU) spokesperson Oleh Aleksandrov has reported that Russia plans to produce two million FPV UAVs and thirty thousand long range and decoy drones in 2025.
