Ukraine – thwarted assassination plot targeting Ukrainian President Zelensky

On 7 May 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) announced that counterintelligence and investigators had recently uncovered a plot to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky and other high-ranking officials.

Two colonels from Ukraine's Department of State Protection were found to be leaking classified information to Russia on the location of the President.

The SSU reports that a colonel from Ukraine's Department of State Protection personally transported FPV drones, RPG-7 charges, and MON-90 anti-personnel mines to Kyiv as part of the foiled scheme, which included a drone and missile strike. These materials were later recovered.
