United States – several IEDs on the Hawaiian island of Maui

On 8 August 2024, an IED, placed near a litter bin functioned on the Old Haleakala Highway in Pukalani. Whilst no injuries were reported, the IED caused damage to a passing vehicle. On the same day, the FBI and Maui Police Department issued a public safety warning regarding reports of IEDs on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.

Several devices, varying in size and shape were recovered along roadways between Kahului and Kula. An image of one of the recovered devices was shared in an FBI press release. The device was a 7 x 4 inch cylindrical shaped IED, similar in appearance to a basket, wrapped in rope.

Last month, on 23 July 2024, an IED was located near Lono Avenue in Kahului. Forensics revealed fingerprints from packing tape used to manufacture the device. Robert-Francis Dumaran, a resident of Kahului was subsequently arrested in connection with the IED located in Kahului.
