Yemen – MQ-9 Reaper intercepted in Marib Governorate

On 16 May 2024, Yemen’s Houthi military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed in a statement that the Houthis have shot down an American UAV.

Videos online appeared to show wreckage of an MQ-9 Reaper UAV and night-vision footage of a surface-to-air missile hitting the UAV. It is reported that the UAV subsequently crashed near a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Al-Khaseef area of Al Wadi in Marib Governorate.

This news comes as the Houthis continue to launch attacks on shipping vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
