Pakistan – IED functioned in Bannu

On 18 November 2025, a VBIED, consisting of a motorcycle loaded with 8 to 10 kilograms of explosives, detonated near the Doh Ghoda Bridge in Bannu. The device functioned prior to reaching the intended target, avoiding a mass casualty event.
Subsequent investigations at the site led to the recovery of various weapons, ammunition and BME. District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Saleem Abbas Khattak, confirmed that militants were in the process of placing the device when it functioned unexpectedly. The identity of the suicide bomber, who has been linked to previous attacks on police and counter-terrorism personnel, has also been determined. A search operation is underway in nearby localities to trace the fleeing suspect.
