Iraq – FPV UAVs target military base in Baghdad

On 23 March 2026, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) carried out a number of UAV attacks on the Victory Base Complex (VBC) in Baghdad, a US military installation located near Baghdad International Airport. OWA fibre-optic UAVs were used to target a Black Hawk helicopter, and an AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar system located within the base. Additional reports indicate that the Black Hawk helicopter could have possibly been a MEDEVAC vehicle.

The VBC has previously been targeted by UAV attacks, including an incident involving two fibre-optic UAVs that occurred on the 14 March. The IRI have issued a statement on 25 March claiming to have carried out 595 attacks since the 28 February 2026. The group has claimed to have launched 13 attacks per day, with 47 attacks reported in one day on 17 March.
